Tadd Mullinix, aka Dabrye, who has dove headfirst into a array of genres, including IDM, techno and acid-house, returns with “Two/Three” on Ghostly International, a kind of companion piece to his previous “One/Three” and a love letter to Detroit hip-hop from the Ann Arbor native. Mullinix fuses his passion for electronic music with help from a variety of MCs, including MF Doom, Beans, Vast Aire and Kadence, the latter accompanying him on this tour, and whose “Encoded Flow” is one of the album’s best tracks. The inventive sampling and machine beats are surely not an afterthought—they seem almost aggressive, always powerful and essential (Dabrye’s instrumental tracks on “Two/Three” are just as necessary as the others). The record’s single, “Air,” MF Doom’s contribution, weaves Doom’s rhythmic vocal jog with atmospheric synths and a perpetual beat—it goes nowhere and everywhere at once. (Tom Lynch)
