Kate Simko has, rather unassumingly, built a great reputation for her live and recorded material. She’s a classically trained and studied techno composer who’s minimal and melodic work is as comfortable at home as it is in the club. Her love for underground music shines through her songs, breaking them free of moodiness into a rounder, club-oriented sound. For this edition of Wake Up! (the first Tuesday of every month at Sonotheque), Kate celebrates the release of her new “Strumm” EP on Kupei Musika. Expect to hear deep, meticulously produced, often pretty forms of techno that don’t sacrifice that bump. She’ll likely be performing a set of mostly, if not entirely, her own music from the release and beyond. Alongside Kate will be Detroit’s Eric Cloutier, local girl Sassmouth, and visual artist Jeffrey Weeter for what should be a fantastic night of exciting and varied groove. (Jarrett Spiegel)
August 1 at Sonotheque, with Eric Cloutier, Sassmouth and Jeffrey Weeter.
