In case anyone is counting, the last of the Grant Park Music Festival’s “Ten Great Symphonies in Ten Weeks” will be performed on tonight’s final concert of the Grant Park Orchestra season, a sure and sad sign that the summer music season is nearly over. And though it might have been more meaningful to spotlight a particular composer rather than offer a hodgepodge of unrelated music with a meaningless moniker, the final work of the ten is (drumroll, please) ta-dah: the Prokofiev Fifth Symphony. Carlos Kalmar conducts and pianist Stephen Hough is the soloist in the opening work on the program, Beethoven’s “Emperor” Piano Concerto No. 5. (Dennis Polkow)
August 19 at Pritzker Pavilion.
