When it comes to Metro Area, you don’t get much of an argument from anyone in the dance-music community: These guys are universally praised. People who dig house, funk, disco, techno, electro, eighties—basically anyone who likes a beat—can get down with some Metro Area. I sure can. Their shit is extra, extra funky and it comes smooth and free of pretension. It’s like they started with the rollerskating jam and added all the hottest and classiest elements of Quincy Jones, the vibe of classic New York hip-hop, the modern sheen of house music, and synthesized it all into one tall, fine glass of dancefloor juice. Their early singles have been around for nearly six years and are STILL-smoking hot slabs of party shit. HIGHLY recommended for anyone with some soul and a pair of feet. (Jarrett Spiegel)
Metro Area plays at Smart Bar, 3730 North Clark, (773)549-0203 on August 25 from 10pm-4am. $10 cover.
