Victory Records, the Chicago-based record label specializing in punk and indie rock, has taken home an award having very little to do with their signed musical talent. Voted “Best Animal-Friendly Record Label” by subscribers of peta2, the youth animal-rights organization, Victory edged out competition such as Trustkill, Vagrant and Epitaph Records. “It was a natural fit because, as you can see, so many of Victory’s bands are featured on our site for the work they do to help animals,” says peta2 “vote counter” Lara Sanders. Victory (with numerous vegetarians on staff) signed Silverstein, (also winner of a 2008 Libby Award) who toured with peta2 to urge fans to fight for chickens to be added to the humane slaughter act. Victory and its bands have been awarded an engraved plaque and an official pat on the back for everything they do to be so-very animal-friendly.
