Solvent is in mourning. The electro-minded Suction label that he and recording partner, Lowfish, began in 1997 has officially closed up shop, hence the aptly named “Now We Are Dead” single and corresponding tour. Suction was adept at releasing weird yet acclaimed electro tunes with airy pop elements, fusing the grooves of minimal techno with synthesizer patterns in the vein of Adult. and Matthew Dear. Solvent, a synth enthusiast himself, released a pair of thematic albums with Dear’s Ghostly imprint, where he now resides exclusively. His newest release for the label is actually a compilation of his best work, a double-disc affair titled “Demonstration Tape (1997-2007).” His partner in crime, Lowfish, also boasts a new full-length, in addition to the limited-edition split twelve-inch created specifically for this tour. Mandate and Detroit DJ duo Team Dethlab are on board for the Chicago date, which promises to be a night of analog bliss and weird electro. The merchandise table alone is worth your trip to the show.
