Too weird to live and too rare to die, Adult. rumbles south from their native Detroit into Chicago, this time leaving their mystery murderbag of electronics and screams behind for crates of curiosities. After all, to make music this weird, what exactly do husband-and-wife duo Nicola Kuperus and Adam Lee Miller actually listen to when not creating music? Are we talking a full-on Ragnarok of deathly serious noise, or cheeky synth oddities served up with a smirk? Your guess would be as good as ours. Last seen concentrating on their forty-minute avant-slasher film “Decampment,” the duo also released a new four-track EP “Let’s Feel Bad Together” last fall. Fairly active on the remix front, Adult. has lent their brazenly original touch to tracks from such disparaging acts as neu Kraut rockers Tussle, shoegaze/techno psychonaut Death in Vegas (who featured Kuperus’ distinctive vocals on “Hands Around My Throat”), electro club luminaries Felix da Housecat and Fischerspooner, and synth rockers Ladytron and The Faint—all of which make speculation about their DJ set more difficult. Faint of heart take note: while this evening has every chance to be a complete head-scratcher, you’ve got to hand it to Meiotic and Approaching Serpents for putting together what could be the strangest club night we’ve seen in years. Also spinning tonight is Chicago favorite Jim Magas (of Magas and Weekend Records & Soap fame, RIP), Beau Wanzer and Jordan Z. (Duke Shin)
