After influencing generations of jazz fans and musicians alike with his innovations within the genre, the legendary guitarist once again surprises us by bringing together old and modern technologies with Orchestrion (Nonesuch), where he used his guitar to create piano, percussion, bass and an array of instruments which he programmed himself.
For his current tour, Metheny gets on stage by himself and is accompanied by a jazz orchestra he controls by using numerous pedals. Instead of using solely digital technology (which would have been the easy way out), all instruments play by themselves as he improvises in his unique, highly recognizable manner—which makes this a concert not to be missed.
