One side of the window display contains the new releases, the other side a quirky theme, as Dave, of Dave’s Records, explains. The store reeks of vinyl, literally. Dave’s prides itself on being one of the few all-vinyl record stores in the city—”vinyl only,” says Dave, “that’s all we do”—and it is not narrow-cast in its selection. The store is almost floor-to-ceiling records, including a cheapo ninety-nine-cent wall, and a bin of ten-cent 45s. Dave understands it is about the collection, and encourages those who shop vinyl to shop around, admitting they can’t possibly have everything all at once, but they do have a little bit of it all.
