In 1997, four promising Chicago DJs formed SuperJane, a collective that differed from other crews with its all-female membership. SuperJane not only catapulted the careers of Colette, Heather, Lady D and Dayhota, it helped change the perception that turntables had to be manned by, well, men. Nearly ten years later, SuperJane’s bond remains strong, with Colette and Heather collaborating on the latest installment of Om Records’ “House of Om” mix series. To support the new compilation, the two SuperJanes have embarked on a tour that hits Smart Bar on Saturday. It’ll be house music all night long when these two get together, but don’t expect either to be bound by the genre. Colette trained as a singer and is at her best when freestyling over her set with her trademark angelic voice. Heather’s skills shine whether she’s dropping soulful house or rough-and-tumble techno, all while staying true to her Chicago roots. (Al de Leon)
