Odd, Los Angeles-based foursome Slow Signal Fade opens this show with its fuzzy, spaced-out guitar rock, with effects pedals out of control and Sri Lanka-born singer Marguerite Olivelle’s vaporous vocals dominating most songs. “Steady,” the band’s debut full-length—the previous EP was so-so—was recorded by Steve Albini and benefits with its live sound and spontaneous aura. The band’s intelligently paired with Brief Candles, a band that’s definitely a child of My Bloody Valentine, but not so derivative that it’s unlikable—the group’s live show is grabbing, loud and impressive. “They Live, We Sleep,” the band’s recent record, is an arresting effort—the band creates an inescapable atmosphere with its delayed guitars and Jennifer Dixon’s hushed vocals, pleasingly out of place, distant.
