This Latin American-themed concert includes Paquito D’Rivera performing Artie Shaw’s “Clarinet Concerto,” a piece modeled after Stravinsky’s jazz-inspired “Ebony Concerto” that was a favorite piece of the late bandleader, and the premiere of the orchestral version of Uruguay-born Chicago composer Elbio Barilari’s “Canyengue,” which explores the African rhythmic influence on the Uruguayan form of the tango. The Chavez Second Symphony and works by Argentine composer Alberto Ginaserta, Mexican composer Silvestre Revueltas and tango master Astor Piazzolla round out the program. (Dennis Polkow)
