George Gershwin himself performed at Ravinia during the summer of 1936 and remarked that he couldn’t imagine a more beautiful place for a concert. Gershwin was dead a year later, but his alto ego Hershey Felder, creator and star of the long-running “George Gershwin Alone,” will host this all-Gershwin gala celebrating the seventieth anniversary of that appearance as the man himself. The show also features conductor and pianist Andrew Litton performing “Rhapsody in Blue” and four-time Tony Award-winner Audra McDonald and Brian Stokes Mitchell performing selections from “Porgy and Bess,” all accompanied by the Chicago Symphony Orchestra. Black-tie gala dinner packages, which benefit the non-for-profit and privately subsidized Ravinia Festival, are also available for $600. (Dennis Polkow)
