The London-based production duo Swayzak has never been easy to categorize. Many outlets label their music as house, but if you pay attention you can hear significant flavors of dub, downtempo and even techno. This genre defiance has colored over a decade of recording from James Taylor and David Brown and has consistently been met with praise from the listening public. Their early work on “Snowboarding in Argentina” and “Himawari” coaxed even the most reluctant feet to the dancefloor, while other oeuvres provided a minimally downbeat soundtrack for the head-nodding wallflower. Vocals have recently been added to the Swayzak repertoire, delivering a human feel to their surgically spot-on production aesthetic. DJ sets by Swayzak are a treat as they typically incorporate a healthy dose of dance-inducing house rhythms, almost always adding new material which sometimes includes unreleased gems.
