Ken Vandermark annually assembles his experimental Territory Band made up of Chicago and Scandinavian free-form jazzers, and the days leading up to this grand-finale appearance will see various configurations of these musicians performing across city jazz clubs before this main event, which includes Jeb Bishop and Axel Doerner (brass), Lasse Marhaug (electronics), Paul Lytton and Paal Nilssen-Love (percussion), Jim Baker (piano), Fredrik Ljungkvist, Dave Rempis and Vandermark himself (reeds) and Kent Kessler and Fred Lonberg-Holm (strings). They perform the world premiere of Vandermarck’s “Collide,” written for local saxophonist Fred Anderson, whose trio—including bassist Harrison Bankhead and drummer Hamid Drake—will open this final “World Class Jazz: Made in Chicago” concert.
