In the grand tradition of Luciano Pavarotti and Marilyn Horne, who both gave special “subscriber appreciation” concerts at the height of their vocal prowess and popularity, soprano superstar Renée Fleming, the hottest opera diva on the planet at the moment, lends her voice to the cause of expressing gratitude for Lyric Opera subscribers by presenting a concert recital that will include her performing arias from Verdi’s “Il trovatore,” Tchaikovsky’s “Eugene Onegin,” Massenet’s “Cléopâtre,” Gounod’s “Mireille,” the mesmerizing finale from Richard Strauss’s “Capriccio” and of course, a host of encores that are likely to be heavy on Puccini. Tickets were sold out at press time, but turnbacks from subscribers who donate tickets they cannot use are expected. Sir Andrew Davis conducts the Lyric Opera Orchestra in his first Lyric Opera appearance since he was sidelined by leg surgery in August. (Dennis Polkow)
