Josh Wink is a sonic chameleon capable of changing up an electronic journey on a dime. Techno, acid, house, drum ‘n’ bass—nothing is off limits for this Philadelphia native who ignited his career in the rave-heavy ruffle of the mid-nineties. In 2006, the DJ/producer/label owner/remixer proves why he’s worthy of a five-word title. During live performances, Wink takes audiences on a dark journey marred with everything from electro-funk to disco disarray. And while Wink continues to glean success from releases on his self-owned Ovum imprint, his live sets masterfully craft electronica’s intellectual—if not driving—intensity. The music has sustained for a reason. L.A.-based SuperJane darling Colette has something to sing about too. Since the debut of 2005’s “Hypnotized,” lush beats and dirty bass have helped the house DJ/vocalist/producer sleaze to new highs. Once defined by her ethereal vocals, Colette punches up her live sets with an edgier, electro-sass. It’s shiny lip-gloss and juicy house for the masses. Smack! (Jenn Danko)
