Chicago house gets an East Coast schooling, thanks to a Friday night appearance by New Jersey’s Kevin Hedge. As one part of the production duo Blaze, he and partner Josh Milan churned out up-tempo, New York-style classics including “Hideaway” and “Desire.” Chart success translated into support from East Coast staples such as Master At Work, Terry Farley and Tony Humphries. Hedge found other collaborative success during his thirteen-year run with Timmy Regisford as DJs for New York’s Shelter. One of the big city’s longest-running parties, the decks reeked of electronic star power up until 2002, when Hedge embarked on his first international tour. More recently, Hedge is traveling solo, bringing his eclectic sound of house, funk, hip-hop and jazz to global dance floors. Big-room sound freaks will find solace in the definitive club anthem, “Most Precious Love,” which Blaze released early this year. In meantime, hear Hedge mix up elements that shake—Chicago’s Lady D (D’lectable) brings the pop. (Jenn Danko)
