For those of you who missed Mew’s stop at the Metro last month, here’s your second chance. The Denmark band has been compared to Sigur Ros, Radiohead and My Bloody Valentine, but the ambient-rock band successfully dodges any sense of derivativeness with “And the Glass Handed Kites,” its first record to be released in the U.S., a muscular, forceful and haunting album full of wailing highs and somber, intimate lows. Live, the sound is pulsing and heart-stopping, beating your ears to an ethereal pulp. Atmospheric, edgy and often beautiful, Mew is part rock, part glam, part electronic and synth-driven pop, and its “And the Glass Handed Kites” is staggering and hypnotic. It’s only a matter of time before this takes off full-throttle, so catch ‘em now. (Tom Lynch)
