RECOMMENDED
Describing San-Francisco-based band Two Gallants as Americana wouldn’t do them justice. Throw Americana and folk into a blender with some handfuls of emo-punk, and what comes out are catchy songs, lyrically evocative and, well, good. And for a couple of boys from ‘Frisco, they capture the sound of the antebellum South with panache. Fresh off a tour with Against Me! and a few shows in Europe, one would think Two Gallants members Adam Stephens and Tyson Vogel would be looking to relax, but that just isn’t their style. Clearly marking Wilco as one of its main influences, Blitzen Trapper also seems to suffer from a collective case of split personality. On the band’s latest album, “Wild Mountain Nation,” they seem equally comfortable playing pure classic rock one second as they do the next, expanding the genre’s limits with their experimental sound.
