You’d be hard-pressed in this DJ-concentrated city to find a more diverse group of selectors that the Ill Measures crew. Tonight, they converge on Lava for the second edition of their new monthly enigmatically dubbed Cipher. So what to expect? Well, for starters, Striz is one of the most diverse DJs out there, as demonstrated by his delicately woven rhythms and tempos that span down-tempo, broken-beat and straight-up tracky house. Meanwhile, Brad Miner holds things down with his moody techno compositions (released on Zuvuya Recordings) that he brings to the public via laptop Ableton sets. Rounding out the Cipher trio is Justin Reed, an Ill Measures stalwart who also shares Striz’s sense of variety, with productions both on the house tip and down-tempo, and free-ranging sets that combine deep house, classic techno and perhaps even hip-hop. And as if that wasn’t enough, also joining these mystery men three is Adrienne Sanchez of Revolutionary music fame. (Duke Shin)
