What R.Kelly is to R&B, DJ Funk is to booty house. For those of you unacquainted with this style of electronic music, imagine the grimy “smack it up/flip it/rub it down” line on Bel Biv Devoe’s nineties smash “Poison” looped into oblivion behind a simple, percolating beat and perhaps a shuffly sounding snare. And there it is, folks—a sound that is the soft-core porn of music in general, that held up DJ Funk as its godfather and that has doubtlessly gotten many, many people laid. The Chicago native is joined by another tonight at this Movement event—up-and-coming DJ/producer Million $ Mano, who, interestingly enough, got a lot of love for his remixing of the aforementioned nineties jam. It’ll be an all-but-toxic dose of booty-shaking tonight, so get yo’ freak on! (Jen Boyles)
