You know the often-parodied act in “West Side Story” when all the dudes come out of the woodwork to get behind their guys, and they go snappin’, dancin’ and struttin’ through the city streets? That’s kind of what I picture when thinking of all the people who’ve congealed with club-rap dons Spank Rock over the last few years—Paserock being one of them. A rapper with a slightly husky midtone and a great sense of humor in his lyrics (he wrote that song about Lohan’s naughty bits), the New York MC is coming to Chicago to help us celebrate Lava’s first anniversary since reinventing itself on Milwaukee Avenue. He’s got help, too: joining him are ambitious local jocks Pickel and Zebo. “The show is going to be quite nice,” Zebo says. “Pase is not only dope on the vocal tip, but he knows what it takes to be a quality DJ as well.” Can’t you feel the love already? (Jen Boyles)
Paserock headlines the first of two consecutive one-year-anniversary parties at Lava, 1270 North Milwaukee, (773)342-5282, on February 8, 9pm. $5.
