In 2004, this UK duo remixed Future Cut’s “20/20” for Renegade Hardware and began a career that has yet to slow down. Saul Milton (Chase) and Will Kennard (Status) have played Starsky & Hutch in the studio since university in Manchester, recently graduating to the venerable Ram Records, with a full album expected later this year. Single after single hit the dancefloors since “20/20,” from ragga-fueled anthems like “Duppy Man” to the acid breakbeats of “Timewarp.” Milton and Kennard switch genres and tempos with ease, moving swiftly from rapid, energetic rollers to brooding, bass-heavy fare. It is no surprise that over the last two years, the BBC, Shy FX’s Digital Soundbwoy imprint and Dizzee Rascal have all taken notice of their skills. Chicago heads can witness Chase and Status at the Seminar, just before the one-two punch of the Winter Music Conference in Miami, and a slot at London’s Fabric. (John Alex Colon)
