RECOMMENDED
The Spinto Band—after self-releasing six albums and seeing its seventh, “Nice and Nicely Done,” released all over the world—is at work on its eight record, “Moonwink,” and tours to try out some new songs. The excitable indie-pop—a fusion of Brit pop smarminess and Strokesesque swagger—is melodic and assured, as this is clearly a band that’s been making music together for some time and knows what works and what doesn’t. The goofy nature, compounded by the spastic inclusion of instruments like the xylophone, make it a charming affair, and the vocal harmonies and genuine pop-writing talent engages you from start to finish, or at least throughout the three-song sampler of new material that was distributed. Pleasantly, at no point does this band seem to try to be something that it’s not—this is fun, they’re having fun, we’re having fun, there’s no room for complaints and if they want to make eight more records after this, bless ‘em.
