After two buzz-inducing EPs in “Morning” and “Paratrooper,” New York artist Haale Gafori presents her first full-length, “No Ceiling,” an appropriately titled debut record, at least from a creative sense. Blending both traditional radio songstress pop and the musical influence from her Iranian descent, Haale creates a bold, elusive and stark world with her atmospheric, worldly tones. With help from the dexterity of percussionist Matt Kilmer (who also produced), “No Ceiling” is powerful in its sonic exploration, and Haale’s effective but imperfect voice soars above the soundscape. While the material may be better suited for a mix that kept her voice a bit more subdued—seriously, why get all Jewel on us?—the supporting sounds are just unique enough to keep everyone’s brain from shutting down.
