If there’s one certainty about what you’ll hear from DJ Chicken George, it’s the overflow of funk and soul in every beat he drops. Otherwise, everything else is fair game. CG’s sets take hip-hop mixing back to its block-party roots and he embraces any song that’ll fit his groove regardless of genre or style. But as much as he’s an accomplished mixer, the Austin DJ is a music fan first and his enthusiasm for the sounds comes through while he’s spinning. CG dubs his sound “Jazztronica” and he’s been pushing the style around the globe for years. His travels have included shows with legends like Grandmaster Flash, DJ Premier and DJ Jazzy Jeff, and his style is flexible enough for less-likely pairings with Spoon and Echo and the Bunnymen. CG loves what he does and he’s taking full advantage of his time here with other guest spots as well as tonight’s headlining gig at BUMP—so there’s no excuse to miss this DJ. (Noah Levine)
