RECOMMENDED
America’s great baritone poet plays as part of the Pitchfork/Millennium Park afternoon lunchtime series, which should be a laidback enough affair to keep Loopers from getting too wound up before heading back to the office. Callahan’s last record was “Woke on a Whaleheart,” his first using his own name (without the Smog moniker), and while he introduced elements of gospel and supplies some downright aggressive moments, it’s still a Bill Callahan record, trotting down the road of dark introspection. Callahan always impresses live regardless of the material, and it’s been a while since “Whaleheart”; the notion that he might play some newly penned songs should be enough to get over to Millennium Park for a free show. (Tom Lynch) Pritzker Pavilion, Millennium Park. 12:15pm. Free.
