Any band reportedly dubbed “Pigeons of Shit Metal” by Axl Rose must be doing something right. The garage-rock project from bad-ass guitarist Jesse Hughes and Queens of the Stone Age frontman Josh Homme has done more than just piss off Guns n’ Roses fans, its almost managed to produce a couple of decent albums that plant tongue at least partially in cheek, including the new effort, “Heart On.” This record delivers what you usually expect from these big muscled, heavily tattooed, goofy mustache-laden rockers: blues-rock guitar licks, unnecessarily high vocals and lyrics that include “jiggle your ass for me” (from a song called “Prissy Prancin’,” no less). It’s no masterwork (nor was that the intention), but “Heart On” manages a slew of slick cock-rock tunes with little filler. Just a guess: it’s probably better than “Chinese Democracy.” (Andy Seifert)
