How many times has a throwback metal band been described as taking influence from Black Sabbath? The answer: every time. That says more about Sabbath’s influence than the lack of creativity found in throwback metal bands—there really is only so much that they can do and, you know, Sabbath is totally fucking awesome. Montreal’s Priestess is not a great band, but they made a pretty good record in 2006, called “Hello Master,” on RCA, and the stoner-rock/heavy-metal mash, yes, takes influence from Sabbath; the guitar chops are topnotch, the hooks and seventies howl enough to blow your mind out of your ass. “Hello Master” is pure rock ‘n’ roll fun. On this tour, Priestess is playing new material from its upcoming record, which the band just finished. So come with open ears. And watch your ass. (Tom Lynch)
