Legendary French house producer Alan Braxe gained international notoriety with his releases on Thomas Bangalter’s Roulé label—namely his track “Vertigo” and the club classic “Music Sounds Better With You,” his collaboration with Bangalter and Benjamin Diamond as Stardust. Braxe went on to remix popular artists such as Björk, Röyksopp, Goldfrapp, Kylie Minogue, Kelis and Jamiroquai, while also starting his Vulture label. While the producer/remixer has only been DJing for a few years, he has been touring around the world when he’s not running his label or working in the studio. Expect an energetic set of nu-disco jams mixed with big-room-styled filter-house bangers and various electro derivatives. His Smart Bar performance this Friday marks a rare U.S. appearance, not to mention only one of two U.S. stops on his current tour (he flies to New York City the next day). Smart Bar has appropriately chosen Chicago’s popular Dark Wave Disco DJs Trancid and Mark Gertz, as well as Ryan Paradise, to work the floor along with Braxe. (Elly Rifkin)
