Chicago-based trio Future Rock has seen its local profile raised over the last year, opening for the varied likes of Juno Reactor and Glitch Mob, rocking crowds at the Wicker Park Fest and throwing a NYE party at the Abbey Pub with Daedelus and Eliot Lipp and Leo123’s Dark Party. But what local fans might not realize is that Future Rock has advanced their live take on Daft Punk, psychedelic noodling and sonic retro-futurism straight to the crossover forefront, crisscrossing the country as opening support for the Disco Biscuits and Matisyahu. Tonight, Future Rock gets headlining status, with support coming from the very excellent Shout Out Out Out Out (not to be confused with the Shout Out Louds), who manage to package their tight grooves from a punkier, electro-grooved place with just a touch of humor (see: “Self-Loathing Rulz” and DJ call-out “Your Shitty Record Won’t Mix Itself”). And when these live electronic bands aren’t busy trying to stir up Metro’s Friday nighters (why is it so much harder to get people to dance upstairs?) DJ collective Orchard Lounge will do its best to keep the crowd at attention with a subtle and deft hand for adventurously mixed future disco/funk rhythms. (Duke Shin)
