Thrill Jockey Records, the Chicago-based independent record label, will showcase a lineup of artists July 2 at the Illinois Lottery Taste Stage at the Taste of Chicago. “I think they wanted to have a more Chicago-centric flavor to this year’s festival,” says Thrill Jockey’s David Halstead, mentioning that Bloodshot Records also has a Taste showcase. “They approached us and we reached out to a lot of our local acts.” Scheduled to perform are experimental guitarists Doug McCombs and David Daniell, saxophonist Fred Anderson, glam rocker Bobby Conn, indie-rock band Eleventh Dream Day and jazz collective 8 Bold Souls. Halstead acknowledges that the selections are a little different than typical Taste fare, so he’s not sure what reaction to expect. “It’s kind of all over the place. It’ll be interesting to see,” he says. “I imagine there will be a lot of older people out there who will really appreciate the jazz artists. And there’s a little something for everybody.”
