San Francisco’s venerable OM Records celebrates its fifteen-year anniversary with Chicago ex-pat Mark Farina returning to town. While his signature “Mushroom Jazz” series helped define the sunny laidback grooves that came to represent OM to the rest of the world, with time comes evolution, and OM’s recently looked to supplement its roster with sounds coming from the UK, like tech-house master Mike Monday or rising new talent Pezzner, who joins Farina tonight. First introduced to the world with releases on Freerange, Pezzner’s definitely deep, but the heart of his depth runs closer to heady techno-influenced warmth than laidback Bay-area vibes. Four years ago, Farina closed out a small Lollapalooza stage on Saturday night. Rather than bemoan the lack of house (or techno) artists at Lollapalooza since then, drop into Smart Bar tonight and catch this living legend with Pezzner’s Chicago debut. Local talent Frank Solano also lends deck support. (Duke Shin)
