Spectral DJ Ryan Elliott undoubtedly delivered one of the most talked about performances of this year’s Movement festival in Detroit, and tonight may be your last chance to see him rock a room in Chicago for some time. In the now ubiquitous tradition of talented Detroit DJs making the move to Berlin, Elliott’s bittersweet departure will surely take his well-established DJing and producing career to new heights. VOLATL, which also brought Elliott to Sonotheque last summer, has certainly put together a proper send-off party. Berlinner and Chicago ex-pat Tim Xavier, who recently scored with new releases on his own LTD400 label, will perform a set of dark, grooving techno. Also DJing is Chicago’s Kate Simko, whose recent musical contributions to Ghostly/Spectral have earned her worldwide acclaim. Chicago’s Phil Stone will provide support with a deep, heady set of techno and house—an excellent reason to arrive early. (Elly Rifkin)
